Student Moving Guide: Swansea University & UWTSD

EL Removals Team 5 February 2026 7 min read

Moving to Swansea for university is an exciting step, but it can also feel overwhelming — especially if it is your first time living away from home. Whether you are heading to Swansea University (Singleton or Bay Campus) or the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), this guide covers everything you need to know about getting your stuff to Swansea and settling in.

Swansea University: Two Campuses, Two Vibes

Singleton Campus

The original Swansea University campus sits in beautiful parkland overlooking Swansea Bay, just a short walk from Brynmill and Uplands. Most arts, humanities, and social science courses are based here. Student halls on or near Singleton include Beck House, Preseli, and Cefn Bryn. If you are moving into private accommodation, the popular areas nearby include Brynmill, Uplands, and Sketty — all within walking distance of campus.

Bay Campus

The newer Bay Campus sits on the eastern edge of Swansea near the SA1 waterfront area. It is home to engineering, science, and management courses. Bay Campus has its own halls of residence right on site, and students also live in SA1 apartments and the wider Swansea area. The campus is well-connected by bus to the city centre.

Best Student Areas in Swansea

Brynmill

The classic student area. Walking distance to Singleton Campus, packed with student houses, and close to Uplands shops and cafes. The streets are lined with Victorian terraces, many converted into shared student houses. Rent is affordable, typically £300-£400 per room per month. Be aware that parking is limited and streets are steep — something to consider on moving day. See our Sketty & Uplands removals page for local help.

Uplands

Slightly more upmarket than Brynmill but still popular with students. The Uplands high street has independent cafes, pubs, and takeaways — a great place to socialise. Rent is slightly higher, but the area is vibrant and convenient.

SA1 & Marina

Modern apartments near Bay Campus attract students who prefer contemporary living. It is a bit pricier but offers a different vibe to the traditional student terraces. See our SA1 removals page for moving help in this area.

Moving Into University Halls

If you are moving into halls, the university will give you a specific move-in date and time slot. Halls usually provide a bed, desk, wardrobe, and sometimes a small kitchen. You will need to bring bedding, kitchenware, toiletries, and personal items. Here are some tips:

  • Check what is already provided in your room before packing
  • Arrive during your allocated time slot to avoid queues
  • Bring a door stop — it makes carrying things in much easier
  • Take photos of any existing damage for your deposit protection
  • If driving, check parking arrangements in advance — campus parking fills up fast on moving day

End-of-Year and Between-Year Moves

The end of the academic year (May/June) is one of the busiest times for student moves in Swansea. Thousands of students need to move out of their accommodation at roughly the same time. If you are moving between student houses, the September changeover is equally hectic. Book your removal or man and van early to secure your preferred date.

Budget Moving Tips for Students

  • Share a van: If your housemates are also moving, share the cost of a man and van service
  • Pack light: Only bring what you genuinely need — you can always buy things in Swansea
  • Use our man and van service: Starting from just £40 per hour, it is the most affordable way to move
  • Sell what you do not need: Use student Facebook groups to sell furniture before you leave
  • Book early: Prices tend to be lower when you book in advance rather than last-minute

Summer Storage Options

If you are going home for summer but returning to Swansea in September, storing your belongings can save you the hassle (and cost) of transporting everything twice. We offer affordable storage services in Swansea that are perfect for students — keep your furniture, kitchen items, and other belongings safe over the summer and we will deliver them to your new address in September.
